Excellent scripts

  • Google Notebook

  • Easily store text, clippings, images, etc in various ‘notebooks’ right from the status bar of
your browser. Notebooks are available via the web as well. You can share the notebooks or
leave them private. I find them very handy for programming, so i can quickly popup a small
window and scroll through things like ‘how to deal with associative arrays in javascript’ or
how to use the ‘map’ command in perl

  • Furl - Your Personal Web

  • Online bookmark service with one big advantage over the others: it keeps a local copy of any page you ”
furl”. So when the site disappears, or is just temporarily unreachable, you still have the data availab
le. It even works with pages that are in a password protected area.

    Screen shots:
  • Conky - lightweight system monitor

  • Highly customizable system monitor that displays on your root window in X. Lots of preconfigured
variables, as well as support for showing output of any scripts…even has some intelligence
like not showing a var or text unless a certain process is running, a file exists, etc

  • FluxBox window manager

  • Based off of Blackbox v0.61 (bbox themes and most bbox utils are completely compatible). It has tabs
    ; you can auto-group
windows (based on window class) as they pop-up, then use tabs to switch between them. I use it for thin
    gs like looking at 10
full screen aterms (much more lightweight than
multi-gnome-terminal). Also, you can use dock/wharf apps with it and
predetermine the order they appear in, regardless of the order they load in. xwindows now starts in 5 seconds vs
several minutes (when I was running Gnome desktop and Sawfish window manager). I found dock app replace
    ments for most
everything that I had a Gnome applet for.

  • AcidLaunch

  • Small, easy to use program launcher. For those of you who arent using Gnome or KDE but want some easy w
    ay to start up
programs. It uses an XML format config file (love that). It can be “swallowed” by ="http://fluxbox.sourceforge.net">FluxBox and BlackBox or just float on the desktop.

  • ObjectDock
  • For those of you jealous of the cool app dock/launcher on Mac OSX. Now there is one for W
indoze. Very cool, and is a good combo with Blackbox for Windoze (since theres no more start menu or Qu
    ick Launch bar).

  • Blackbox window manager (for windoze)

  • Finally something to make windoze bearable. No more Start Menu, no annoying desktop icons, no more sys
tem tray. Just what *I* want to see and use.
