So far so good
posted by CodeGirlI’ve been using WordPress for 2 days now, and I really like it. I just have to get used to the PHP part, and that I can’t insert javascript and the like wherever I please.
I am now adding tags/categories to all the posts.
Wordpress 2.x seems like a big improvement feature wise over Wordpress 1.x. Especially the blog import section (though I did have to temporarily publish the old blog to blogspot — the import script doesnt really work if you use SFTP to publish your blog elsewhere)
I’m hoping the security is a lot better/tighter as well. In the last few weeks I noticed a huge increase in script kiddies trying to get to xmlrpc.php. FOFF guys,it is unreachable here. That reminds me: I was going to write a perl script to parse the Apache access logs regularly and create IPTables DROP rules for the source address of any such requests.
I got used to having a lot more room, width-wise, so this really skinny template is hard to get used to. Yes I did checkout 50-60 themes recently that are 3 column versions. None of them were to my liking, so I went with the default for now. In Wordpress 2.x, you can easily change the colors of the header and title, so I just toned down the default bright blue.
Still havent added any plugins/hacks/etc, but I plan to. Probably AFTER I figure out better what is available and how to best utilize it. Stuff like custom fields (within posts), trackbacks, “post slug”s are just a few of the things I need to read up on.
